To-Do List for Summer '07

This is sort of a minor to-do list for me. I have so much writing that I'm currently working on and I would love to actually finish it. So, yeah...

As of 06.24.07:

Works in Progress

01. a Maldição de Diabo; 55 chapters.

Diabo, aka The Beast, is my baby. Right now it is just shy of the 200K mark and there are still 6 chapters left until it is complete. My initial goal that I (kinda, sorta) stuck to for the first year of its run was to complete a chapter and post it once a week (usually on Sunday). But, now that I've been working again and my free time has been severely limited, updates are now every two weeks or so.

Diabo is a story unlike anything I have ever read in fan fiction. It takes place in the present age but it is not an AU - instead, it is a supernatural story filled with ghost, curses and historical references. It has tense moments, funny moments and heartbreaking moments... everything you can ask for rolled into one huge ass epic. (And, yes, I am tooting my horn over this one, heh.)

Finishing Diabo is my first priority. I have the last six chapters outlines and I'm determined that the story will not go over 60 chapters.

02. Pick Your Poison; 3 chapters.

Pick Your Poison is a story that I recently started. It is a first POV fic that features a jaded Skittery, seven or so years after the movie ends. Something happened in the winter of 1900 that sent Skittery scurrying from Manhattan and now, in the summer of 1907, he's back. We don't know why he left but we do know why he's back: he feels the need to apologize. But why? Read to find out.

I've been updating this once a week since I started it. The idea came to me and I decided that it was simple enough not to be drawn out. It will probably be about 10 chapters, maybe less. It's an interesting style for me to attempt to write and I'm having a lot of fun with Skittery Daniels and Sunny Willows.

03. Obsession: Cuts like a Knife; 19 chapters.

O:ClaK is the rewrite of one of my first ever fics, Cuts Like a Knife. It's an origin story for my OC, Stress, and deals with all sorts of issues. I am more than halfway done with the rewrite - Jack, at least, has been introduced.

I started both chapter 20 and chapter 21 recently and, as soon as I get a couple more chapters of Diabo done, I'll get back to Obsession.

04. Sin City; 12 chapters.

Sin City is another experimental piece that I've been working on. It takes place over one night - from 8pm on August 15th to 7 pm on August 16th, 1899. Every chapter is an hour and focuses on the same five characters: Jack, David, Race, Skittery and Mush. Each has their own vices to deal with in that 24 hour period and, by the end, not all of them will be standing.

It's a short, gritty, fast-paced story that, as soon as some of the others are done, I will get back on. I love the present tense and the urgent need it sets. Also, since this story deals with the realities of the time, and of a Sin City, it's unlike a lot of the fluff pieces you see in the Newsies section of ff.net.

05. Never Enough; 23 chapters.

Never Enough is probably the oldest, unfinished story in my account. I started it in the summer of 2002 but, after six chapters, I let it die. I revived it last May and went from 6 chapters to 23 - and, as there will only be 26 chapters total, it's almost done.

It's an interesting take on the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. In Never Enough, the story is set in 1921 - Jack Kelly has started up the Manhattan Mob, Spot Conlon the Brooklyn Boys gang. Both are criminals, working the underworld of New York City. They are rivals, too - a childhood rivalry had grown into a fierce competition to run the underworld.

Until one night, that is. When a single gunshot puts forth a turn of events that reveal, ultimately, that Jack and Spot were not as allknowing and allpowerful as they thought.

Upcoming:

- I have an idea for another Diabo companion piece. It will be called A Cat's Meow and will answer the question of "What happened to Blink?" in the Diabo universe. I'm hoping for it to be just a dialogue piece, with very little description. It will be short, too.

- I have an idea for a one shot that will be called Lucky Seven. It will feature one newsie, a pair of dice and eventual consequences... in that order. More coming soon on that.
